about me
Annabel Newland is an LA-based filmmaker and writer, born and raised in Sydney, Australia. Her work spans across all narrative forms. She has written and directed short films that have screened at festivals worldwide. In 2023 Annabel was the recipient of the American Australian Association Arts Fund and is currently completing her Masters in Screenwriting at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. Along with her studies, Annabel works under mentor and screenwriter Luke Davies, as well at Squarepeg (Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen’s production company), as a development intern. She previously worked for Causeway Films (The Babadook, Talk to Me, You Won’t be Alone) on their latest feature THE MOOGAI, which premiered at Sundance in 2024. She has written for multiple online publications including Side-Note and Axiomatic Magazine and was the creative director on Converse’s 2022 PRIDE Campaign.
Annabel hopes to continue developing stories that helm complex female characters, focussing on representation on screen and exploring the beauty in the monotony of everyday life. She currently has two short films in post-production and is working on two feature films in development.
